It happens suddenly one day – your darling baby has never had a problem at the doctor. She’s laughed and smiled through each visit (okay, maybe not the shots, but the rest of it!)… Then it hits. Doctorphobia – a fear of the doctor. It happened to my daughter – there was a period where she would shrink into a shy child with nothing to say the entire ride to the doctor’s office and cry and cling to me if the doctor even came over to say hello. You can imagine the degree of unhappiness when it was time to use the stethoscope on her chest, much less the dreaded tongue depressor....

Totally normal. I remember Nathan clinging to me at his 18 months and 2 year appointments. But other than that, my crazy child has always loved the doctor. I have no idea why. He gets so excited when I say we are going there and I don't tell him when I take baby Luke or else he'll get upset he is missing out!

In fact when I wanted to talk to our pedi about his shyness/seperation anxiety at school this year, she could not believe it since he shows anything but that behavior around her! Of course, he has not had any shots since 18 months, so he may not remember that part. And we did not bring him to any of Luke's appointment where he'd have to watch his baby brother get shots!

We did the doctor kit too and brought it to his 3 year old appointment. He loved using all his stuff on the doctor after she did on him! He even pointed out the knee knock thingie when she did not use it! We go to the dentist for the first time next week. Not looking forward to that, but maybe he'll enjoy that for some reason too.
