I'm a newbie!!

I stumbled across this site by mistake, but I can already tell it is exactly what I was looking for. I moved to South Carolina about a year ago, but I still haven't met anyone to "hang out" with. I'm a stay at home mother of 3 boys. Zachary is almost 5, Brennon is 3, and Tripp is almost 16 months. About me? My name is Amber, and I have been married going on 6 years to the most amazing man. I have a touch of OCD with cleaning, I spoil my kids rotten, and I love every minute of it. I love…

Her first big tumble

Sunday was such a beautiful day! My husband, daughter and I went over to my best friend's house so our daughter, McKennon, could play outside with her little boy. They recently got a trampoline, and McKennon absolutely loves it! They also have a great backyard, that's perfect for sitting on the deck and watching the little ones run around. Well, my daughter had tired of jumping on the trampoline, so she was running around the yard when she discovered the steps leading up to the deck. She…

Doctorphobia

It happens suddenly one day – your darling baby has never had a problem at the doctor. She’s laughed and smiled through each visit (okay, maybe not the shots, but the rest of it!)… Then it hits. Doctorphobia – a fear of the doctor. It happened to my daughter – there was a period where she would shrink into a shy child with nothing to say the entire ride to the doctor’s office and cry and cling to me if the doctor even came over to say hello. You can imagine the degree of unhappiness when it…

Do you have a family bed?

Do any of you watch The Talk? It's the new talk show with Julie Chen on CBS. I DVR it everyday! They have great topics for moms. Yesterday they did a segment on co-sleeping or the family bed. Both sides have statistics saying which is best. I was just wondering what Spartanburg Moms think of this issue because this has been a major issue in my family. We do practice the family bed in our house. My daughter slept in her pack-n-play until she was about 4 months old. Then we decided to move her to… Continue

Saying bye for now......

Every mom dreams of that perfect job, right? For some it is staying home with the kids full time while for others it might be working in an office job regular hours. Or it could fall somewhere in between those two. For every mother, that perfect job has a different description. For me, that description was a reality for the past two years. As moderator of SpartanburgMoms.com, I have been able to work from home part time doing something I love while staying home with my children. It has been a… Continue

Consignment Sale Season is Here!

Its consignment season again! You ready to tag? You ready to shop? Do you even know what consignment sales are? Well, I'm a huge fan and I thought I'd share some tricks and tips.

Around our area, there are plenty of consignment sales, each usually occurring a couple times a year – once for Spring/Summer clothes and once for Fall/Winter clothes. I have been to three all in the Greenville area – Switcharoos (…

A different birth still a birth, right?

Whoever told me no two pregnancies are the same could not have been more right when it came to mine. I'll post another blog about how different these two boys of mine have been in the womb....and probably follow that up in a few months with how different they were/are as babies! But for now, here's an update from my last month of pregnancy with baby #2.

I went to the doctor for my 37 week appointment yesterday (although I am 38 weeks today) and learned I might have pre-eclampsia.… Continue

Oh, the things my child won't know...

My daughter and I were visiting my parents’ house after work last week when I spotted the record player and some of my old 33s that I had as a child. I pulled out the Grease soundtrack. As I placed it on the turntable, I found myself narrating to my child: “This is called a record. If you put it here and place the needle on the first groove, it plays music.” Then it hit me – even if she were old enough to fully understand, she still would have no idea what a record player was. I bet they… Continue

Past, Present and Future

I've been into genealogy now for a while... I can trace it back to a small envelope filled with childish handwriting about names of my great grandparents or a story of how my Granny met my Papa way back when. That envelope remained inside a mail tube containing a rolled up family tree chart in the corner of my closet for years until I dug it back out after college to really get started.

My efforts were off and on at best until my father was diagnosed with cancer. He had always… Continue

Toddler Talk - Watch your mouth, Mommy!

Remember the movie Meet the Fockers? Oh how I laughed and laughed over the baby’s first word scene. Poor Ben Stiller was still trying to make a good impression on his soon-to-be inlaws and he did not succeed when he allowed their grandson to hear him say the A word. Up until that point, the toddler was holding off his first word and he eagerly repeated his future uncle’s foul language, much to the dismay of Robert DeNiro. I still remember the roar of laughter in the movie theater…

Cheerleading

I am signing my 4 year old daughter up for cheerleading tomorrow in Boiling Springs. Are any other parents considering this? It is the early registeration, and will be helping out with fundraisers. Here is a copy of the schedule and prices.

Thanks

Well, when mine were little......

I often wonder what I will be amazed over when my children have children. If its anything like the way the older generation responded over things my son had as a baby and has now as a toddler, well, I can’t imagine what is in our future for babies and kids.
My inlaws did not become grandparents until close to their 70th birthdays. You can imagine how things had changed in the 30-40 years since their children were born. They did not understand the need for car seat, much less the…

Photos Galore!

My husband and I often chuckle when we realize that we've already taken more photos of our daughter than exist of us for an entire childhood. Thanks to the advances of digital photography, it's easy to snap photo after photo of our children. We decided that not only would we take lots of photos ourselves, but that we would take her to be photographed professionally every three months for the “milestone” photos – 3, 6, 9 months and so on. We also snuck…
