Spartanburg Moms

A gathering place for moms in Upstate South Carolina

I am not sure how many of you are aware of what went down this week.  The change.org group signed petitions urging Seasme Street to marry Bert and Ernie and also to put a transgender character on the show.  They claim that it will teach the children tolerance, last time I checked that is called indoctrination.  But thankfully, Seasme Street held their ground and told the group NO.

I couldn't believe it when I saw the story on CNN yesterday. We need to let kids be kids and not worry about all the extra problems in the world - it comes way too soon as it is! I am proud of the Sesame Street organization for recognizing this and leaving the show in a neutral zone.
Change.org is not a "group". Its a website where people can sign up and start a petition about anything. ANYTHING. They didn't start this petition; one of their users did. Currently, there are a little over 9,000 "signatures" for 'let bert and ernie get married'. Since Sesame Street has a domestic viewership of something like over 77 million, and it is highly unlikely that the 9,000+ who signed the petition have kids that watch, the "threat" of a gay marriage on the show was/is in the negative integers. And anyway, Sesame Street characters are owned by their creators; a 100 million people can sign a petition to have Elmo's Fur be green instead of red, for example, and the show can say, "no, thanks; we like him that way", and thats the end of story, end of conversation, end of "controversy". So really, nothing went down, no ground to hold.
the point is that there are people in this world that are trying to push their liberal agenda on our children and it should be stopped. just like in CA where there are making gay history mandatory to teach in schools or teaching sex to 5 years and then get schocked when a second grader gets pregnant. It's time to take a stand and say enough is enough.

I completely agree with you Kristina! That is why I'm so careful about what is on our tv when our daughter is in the room!
