Spartanburg Moms

A gathering place for moms in Upstate South Carolina

Hi Everyone, I have been a stay-at-home for about 2 months now and its great, but I'm afraid my 3 year old needs a bit more socialization. She was in daycare with the same kids since she was 5 months old and loved her classmates, she's a super friendly and imaginative kid but I think she's bored here with me all the time. We have some family friends with kids but they're all working moms and the kids are in daycare so she sees them when we can on the weekends. I'm wondering if theres anyone out there with a 4 or 5 year old little girl (or boy! she's very well rounded) who is home during the day to get together with. She is fairly advanced for her age and plays best with the 5 year old crowd. Unfortunately we had to make some sacrifices to stay at home and a preschool just isnt an option for us. I dont want her to be bored or to lose her people skills til 4K or eeekk Kindergarten!

Hi Christine! I'm trying to nail down a Spartanburg Moms play date for Nov. I'm going to have it at Monkey Joe's, and I'm trying for a Tuesday afternoon. I'm still waiting on them to call me back, but I should have something up on the site by this afternoon. That would be a good place to maybe meet some new moms! I hope you'll be able to attend! Check the site this afternoon for an update!

Have you looked in to joining MOPS(Mothers of Preschoolers)? Check out the website:  http://www1.mops.org/web/web_group_search.php

There are at least two groups that I know of in Spartanburg, one at First Baptist North Spartanburg and another First Baptist Boiling Springs. The group meets every other Tuesday, there is a speaker and group time for mom and the kids have fun playing together in the nusery, plus they have play dates at other times as well.

Also, check out the library. I think all branches have something for kids each week. The main Headquarters in Downtown has a library class that is a lot of fun! There is one for ages baby-3 and another for 3-5. They sing, dance, read stories, have puppet shows. It is a great way to meet other moms and kids who stay at home too. They may not have classes next week b/c of Thanksgiving, but I am not certain about that..Check out the website: http://www.infodepot.org/zS1/HQTinfo.asp

I hope this helps!

Why not a playdate at bump it up, they are more private than monkey joes

Hey Tonya! You're right, pump it up is definitely more private than monkey joe's. They are also a lot more expensive. You have to pay for the actual party, not just the admission. I know with the holidays coming up, that it would be too expensive for me. Another mom suggested doing something at Chick-fil-A on the eastside. That way we could have dinner and let the kids play in the play area. I thought about Tuesday, Dec. 6. Would that work for everyone?

One of these days I'd love to attend a playdate/event from here, but they always seem to be on Tuesdays or Thursdays which are the only two afternoons I work :-(. Is there a reason these afternoons are favored or is it just a coincidence?  I feel doomed to be an outsider forever! </crazy dramatics> ;-)

Would Monday work?

Sure, that would be good for me. :-) Is it good for everyone else - I definitely don't want to throw off everyone's groove ;-)

Great! I scheduled it for Dec. 12. It's listed under the events section. I look forward to meeting you!
