A gathering place for moms in Upstate South Carolina

Potty training Brenna (2yrs 3 mos.) has been going pretty well. She is wet in the AM but has been doing most all her pee on the potty, even staying dry through naptime. Poop; however, is another story entirely. On Friday she was going au natural through the house after swimming and I was making lunch, she came to me and said " Needa wash hands", she had gone on the floor, picked it up and put it in the garbage! We will sit forever on the toilet after she gets gassy but she won't go! She will wait until I put clean undies or a pull-up on to do her business. She doesn't have a predictable BM schedule, it could be 8 am or 7 pm or anywhere in between so I can't plan to tie her to the bowl at a certain time of day. Any ideas on how to deal with a toddler who doesn't want to part with their poo?

We PTed Nathan around 2 years, 6 months. He took to pee-peeing on the potty very fast and was easy with that. Pooping consistently on the potty took a couple more months. He would go in his pullup at bed or naptime. I really don't know what we did to get him to go on the potty. I think we just kept talking about it, enforced the part of his PTing book where the little boy poops and says bye-bye to it as he flushes, etc. Once he did, we praised him to no end, let him flush (he LOVES that), called grandparents, made his favorite for lunch, etc. Once he got it, he got it. We have been lucky! Good luck!
Poop came several months after potty for us, too. During that time we used a diaper at bedtime, nap time, and for outings when an accident would be problematic. A lot of the time, she'd poop in her diaper, and when she didn't, we had to clean up the mess. (It wasn't too bad if we caught it before she sat in it!) Every time she sat on the pot to pee, I'd put my hands around her tummy, and I'd tell her to squeeze for poop. If she didn't feel anything, she was done. If she felt something, we'd stay a little longer. We started the whole process at 2 years 4 months and she was good to go - all day and all night, potty and poop - at 2 years 10 months.
